I've used several methods of creating collage quilts. This spring I took a class from Susan Carlson, someone I consider to be a very gifted quilter. I created a quilt of my dog Penny using Susan's collage technique. I started with a picture of Penny and using Photoshop Elements created a pattern of her by enhancing her features. I've shown the picture I started with and the final quilt. This quilt was created by gluing many small pieces of fabric on a pattern I had created on muslin. Even the background is glued. When I was finished gluing, I use tulle to lay over the portrait and then quilted. I am very pleased with the result and plan to explore this method more.
This is a picture of George Ohr, the father of modern day ceramics in the United States. My son Mike who is a ceramic artist has been motivated by his work. I created this collage for Mike for Xmas 2018.
